Mandarin speakers were asked to indicate when two samples were the same colour. The participants were scanned by an MRI machine whilst doing the task. A second task involved the participants being scanned whilst naming the colour of a displayed sample.
Two areas of the left-hemisphere were shown to be active when the colours had common names in Mandarin.
