Short description: | Dyche & Pardon's "General English Dictionary"
Medium description: | Thomas Dyche & Pardon's "A New General English Dictionary". Aimed at "the Unlearned, and particularly recommended to those Boarding-Schools where English only is taught" as such it claimed to focus on the "difficult words" and to avoid etymologies as they were useless to the intended audience. However, many of the definintions given are verbose and difficult to follow. Notable for its treatment of syllable stress and inclusion of a grammar section, albeit an overly complex one. [Starnes & Noyes (1991) also cite Lewis Morery's "Great Historical ... Dictionary", Defoe's "Dictionarium Sacrum" as sources but do not refer to years or editions. Reference to Harris is assumed by us to be the 1704 edition as this is the only one referenced by Stanes & Noyes]
