Short description: | Hook's "Education of the People"
Medium description: | Dr Hook's pamphlet "On the Means of Rendering more efficient the Education of the People" Hook suggested a system in which elementary secular education would be the responsibility of the state. However, 2 afternoons a week local clergymen from different denominations would be allowed to give religious education to the pupils. The schools were to be supported by local taxes but the teachers, who were to be certified by the state, should be paid for by the state.
