Medium description: | Joseph Webbe submits patent request for his textbook layout which was subsequently granted. Webbe believed that contemporary textbooks failed because of their reliance on word-by-word translation. He thus devised a grid system in which the English translation was placed in the 1st column and the Latin original in the last. The English was divided into clauses and each clause was placed in a separate row. [Kelly only states 1626 which may have the year of the granting of the patent] | |||
